Argo Blockchain's Bitcoin Mining Output Plummets by 63% in July 2024 - What's Next?

Argo Blockchain's Latest Mining Report
Publicly traded on Wall Street and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), Argo Blockchain released its cryptocurrency production report for July 2024, revealing a significant downturn. The company managed to mine 48 Bitcoins last month, a staggering 63% decrease compared to the same month last year, although this marks a slight improvement over June's performance.
Production Figures
In July, Argo mined 1.5 BTC per day, totaling 48 Bitcoins, which is an increase of 4 Bitcoins compared to June. However, this is a sharp decline from July 2023, when the average daily production was 4.2 BTC, culminating in 129 tokens.
Revenue Insights
Despite the dramatic drop in Bitcoin production, mining revenues have not suffered as drastically. In July, revenues reached $3 million, down from $3.9 million the previous year but slightly up by $0.1 million from June. The mining margin was reported in the mid-20% range, lower than June due to decreased hash prices.
Market Response
Following the release of these figures, Argo's shares fell over 9% on the LSE, hitting 9 pence, which is a low not seen in over a month. This decline may also correlate with Bitcoin's own struggles, as its price dropped to $50,000, the lowest since February.
New Institutional Investment
In a positive turn, Argo announced a private placement deal worth ÂŁ6.5 million with an institutional investor. This deal involves issuing 57,800,000 ordinary shares at ÂŁ0.1125 each, which is slightly above recent trading prices but offers a 10% discount on the closing price from July 29. H.C. Wainwright & Co. is acting as the sole placement agent for this transaction.
Financial Growth
Argo's latest quarterly report also highlighted a revenue increase to $16.8 million, marking a 4% rise from the last quarter and an impressive 50% growth compared to the same period last year. Notably, net losses were reduced to $3.2 million, one-third of the previous quarter’s figure.
Despite its challenges, Argo Blockchain remains one of the few publicly traded cryptocurrency miners on Wall Street, known for its significant market capitalization in Bitcoin mining, though it does not hold the title of the largest player in the field.
