Warning from Kill Devil Hills Police
Police in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. are raising alarms about a new scamming technique involving Bitcoin ATMs located at gas stations. Recently, Kitty Hawk Police intervened to stop a woman from transferring a staggering $9,000 into one of these machines.
The Scamming Method
According to the police, these scammers impersonated federal law enforcement officials and presented a fake warrant demanding a $45,000 bond. They successfully convinced the victim to withdraw $9,000 from her bank account and insert it into the Bitcoin ATM, believing it was a legitimate transaction.
Important Reminder
It’s crucial to remember that law enforcement and government entities will never request payments through Bitcoin or gift cards. Stay vigilant and protect your finances from such scams!
