Bitcoin-Backed Stablecoin: Tether's Next Big Move?

Cryptocurrency analyst Willy Woo predicts Tether, the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin USDT, may launch a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin called bUSDT in the future. He bases this prediction on Tether's growing Bitcoin treasury and recent launch of a gold-backed stablecoin. However, Woo acknowledges the current bear market makes this unlikely due to Bitcoin's volatility. He believes that in future bull cycles, when Bitcoin's market cap increases and volatility decreases, bUSDT could be feasible. This move would represent a significant shift for Tether, which traditionally backs its stablecoins with cash and cash equivalents. While a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin could offer benefits, the inherent volatility of cryptocurrencies poses risks, as seen in the collapse of TerraUSD and Terra LUNA.
