Bitcoin Plunges, Liquidations Exceed $300 Million as Bearish Pressure Mounts

The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant downturn on Monday, with Bitcoin dropping below $61,000 and triggering over $320 million in liquidations within 24 hours. This decline was driven by multiple factors, including:
- Mt. Gox Repayments: The announcement of upcoming repayments to creditors of the bankrupt exchange Mt. Gox, holding over $9 billion in Bitcoin, sparked fear of potential selling pressure.
- German Government Sell-Off: Data from Arkham Intelligence revealed that a wallet linked to the German government has recently sold off a significant number of Bitcoins, likely contributing to the market sell-off.
- Miner Selling: Following the Bitcoin halving, data from IntoTheBlock indicates that miners have sold approximately 30,000 Bitcoin, adding to the downward pressure.
The decline in Bitcoin also affected the altcoin market, with Ethereum failing to hold above $3,300 and Solana, BNB, and XRP experiencing significant losses. Uniswap and Maker were among the biggest losers, dropping by 12% and 9% respectively. The majority of liquidations were long positions, with nearly $122 million worth of Bitcoin longs liquidated in the past 24 hours. The largest single liquidation order within this period occurred on Binance, amounting to $15.36 million on the BTC/USDT pair.
