Bitcoin mining company Bitdeer, founded by Chinese billionaire Jihan Wu, has signed a 30-year lease with the Monroe County Port Authority in Ohio to build a 570 MW power facility at the Hannibal Industrial Park in Clarington. This facility will be used for Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing (HPC) for artificial intelligence (AI). The initial 266 MW of power is expected to be available by Q3 2025, with the remaining 304 MW still under review. Bitdeer’s Chief Business Officer, Linghui Kong, said the location significantly expands their existing power capacity and supports their growth ambitions in Bitcoin mining, HPC, and AI. The news caused Bitdeer’s shares (BTDR) to surge by 3.37% in pre-market trading. This deal comes just a month after Tether agreed to purchase up to $150 million worth of shares in Bitdeer, which will be used to fund data center expansion, ASIC mining rig development, and other corporate purposes.
