Core Scientific's shares surged by 17% following a new partnership with CoreWeave. This deal marks a significant extension of their previous high-performance computing (HPC) contract, greatly boosting the miner's revenue potential.

Revenue Expectations

The agreement is projected to generate a total revenue of $6.7 billion starting in the first half of 2026. Core Scientific has exercised its option to host approximately 112 megawatts (MW) of additional GPUs for CoreWeave, an AI Hyperscaler firm.

CoreWeave will cover all capital investments necessary to adapt Core Scientific's existing mining infrastructure for high-performance computing. According to Adam Sullivan, CEO of Core Scientific, this new contract reflects the strong demand for high-power data center infrastructure and the company's capability to deliver it.

Previously, Core Scientific had committed to providing 200 MW of hosting infrastructure for CoreWeave, with options for further expansion. This latest deal represents the third extension of their collaboration, now totaling 382 MW of HPC infrastructure.

Industry Impact

This partnership has revitalized interest in the mining sector, which faced challenges during the recent crypto winter and low profit margins due to halving. The demand for energy-intensive data centers from HPC and AI companies aligns well with the existing infrastructure that Bitcoin miners possess, making them ideal candidates for hosting such operations.

Core Scientific has also indicated possibilities for further extensions to host an additional 118 MW for HPC computing, validating their strategic approach to developing application-specific data centers that meet the needs of modern computing demands.
