Crypto ATM Installations Surge, Nearing All-Time High

The number of cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide has significantly increased, reaching 38,279, just shy of the record 39,541 set in December 2022. This growth is driven by a net increase of 2,564 ATMs installed in 2024, surpassing the 2,861 machines unplugged in 2023. Coin ATM Radar, a leading data provider, highlights this trend. Bitcoin (BTC) remains the dominant cryptocurrency transacted through these ATMs, with Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ether (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC) also popular. The United States holds the largest share of these ATMs, accounting for over 82% of the global total, followed by Canada at 7.7%. Australia has experienced a significant surge in installations, almost 17-fold increase in the past two years, positioning it to potentially overtake Europe in ATM count. Other countries with substantial installations include Spain, Poland, El Salvador, Germany, and Hong Kong. Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin are the leading ATM operators, with 7,543, 5,057, and 2,756 machines, respectively. BitAccess, a prominent ATM manufacturer, experienced a decline in installations between December 2022 and January 2024, but has since recovered and increased its installations.
