Is the Coinbase Premium Signaling a Bitcoin Surge? Insights from U.S. Investors

Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency, is making a bold attempt to breach the $60,000 mark after a recent decline. This surge can largely be attributed to the increased purchasing activity of U.S. investors, as indicated by the Coinbase Premium dynamics.
U.S. Investors Are Back in Action
After spending two weeks in the red, the Coinbase Premium indicator, which reflects the purchasing behavior of U.S. Bitcoin investors, is now in the green zone. It previously plummeted to -0.15% during the recent market collapse, but has since rebounded to 0.1%. This suggests that the price of Bitcoin on Coinbase Pro is now 1% higher than on major spot exchanges.
The rise in the Coinbase Premium signals a growing interest among U.S. investors in acquiring Bitcoin at current prices. For perspective, when Bitcoin first peaked above $70,000, the Coinbase Premium surged to 0.4%. In contrast, it fell to -0.4% in mid-January 2022.
The recent price increase has led to $213 million in liquidations, with nearly 50% of this involving short positions. Specifically, 61% of liquidated positions were shorts in XBT/USD pairs, indicating that the market has been particularly unforgiving to bearish bets.
Are We Past the Worst for BTC?
As the markets recover from the recent downturn, trader optimism is on the rise. A seasoned on-chain analyst has outlined 10 reasons to feel bullish on Bitcoin right now. Notably, he emphasizes the significance of the BTC narrative in the U.S. presidential race, the diminishing power of aggressive sellers, and the absence of precarious CeFi services.
Raoul Pal, CEO of Real Vision, echoed this sentiment last weekend, stating that he is not selling and views the price drop to $50,000 as merely a "shakeout."
