Jetking Infotrain Makes History: India's First Public Company to Embrace Bitcoin as Treasury Reserve!

Jetking Infotrain's Bold Move
Jetking Infotrain has made headlines by becoming India’s first publicly traded company to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) as a reserve asset for its treasury. On December 9, the company acquired 12 BTC, marking a significant shift in corporate treasury strategies.

According to CEO Avinash Bharwani, this Bitcoin reserve is valued at approximately $1.2 million, given the current price of $97,986.35 per BTC. With a market cap nearing $4.5 million, this means that Jetking’s Bitcoin holdings represent over 26% of its total market value.
Strategic Vision for the Future
In a recent interview with Bitcoin advocate Max Keiser at the Bitcoin Conference MENA in Abu Dhabi, Bharwani discussed the company’s strategy of combining equities and Bitcoin to enhance shareholder value over time. He stated:
“We are the first ones to do it, and we are kind of talking to the regulators to see how we can formalize it and make sure everything is within that spectrum.”
Jetking Infotrain, established in 1947 and initially known for trading electronic goods, went public on the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1986. The timing of their Bitcoin reserve announcement coincides with other notable companies, including MicroStrategy, which recently added 21,550 BTC to its portfolio.
Regulatory Landscape and Challenges
Prominent crypto lawyer Suril Desai is leading discussions with regulators regarding this pioneering move. His previous work was instrumental in lifting a two-year ban on banks facilitating crypto transactions in India, allowing firms like Jetking to legally hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets.
Bharwani emphasized the importance of regulatory clarity, noting:
“I think it was really important because that started putting the building blocks for Bitcoin and blockchain.”
However, he also pointed out that tax reporting for Bitcoin gains remains a work in progress, with a 30% tax applied in India.
Market Context
Jetking Infotrain's groundbreaking decision comes amid a broader trend of companies integrating Bitcoin into their financial strategies, reflecting growing institutional interest in cryptocurrencies. As companies explore ways to leverage Bitcoin for long-term growth, Jetking’s move could pave the way for more firms to follow suit.
