Litecoin defies market trends, surges while Bitcoin and Ethereum decline

Litecoin (LTC), a cryptocurrency forked from Bitcoin (BTC), bucked the broader market trend on June 24th, registering a nearly 2% gain. This surge made Litecoin the second-highest gainer in the market. The price increase is notable, especially as blue-chip cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) experienced downward pressure during the same period. A prominent Bitcoin trader, Trading Soldier, has expressed a bullish outlook for Litecoin, predicting it will reach $85 “anytime soon.” This represents a potential upside of nearly 7.5% based on its current price.

Litecoin's popularity as a payment method has been on the rise, contributing to its recent performance. According to BitPay, the world's largest cryptocurrency payment service provider, Litecoin has been the preferred cryptocurrency for payments for the past six months. In March, Litecoin accounted for almost 41% of global payments, significantly surpassing Bitcoin's share of 22.51%.

While initially conceived as a payment method, Litecoin has transitioned into a popular trading instrument. The volume of large transactions involving Litecoin increased by 7.3% to $3.3 billion in the past 24 hours, highlighting increased whale activity and signaling greater engagement in the market.
