Mark Cuban Calls Out Trump for Promoting Silver Coins Over Bitcoin: A Betrayal of Crypto Values
Mark Cuban has criticized Donald Trump for endorsing collectible silver coins, suggesting it reveals Trump's lack of commitment to Bitcoin and a willingness to push poor investments for profit. In a recent X post, Cuban shared a promotional video for Official Trump Coins, which Trump described as a "true symbol of American greatness."
Cuban remarked, "I guess he doesn't believe in btc [Bitcoin] quite as much as the Maxis told him to," referencing Trump's recent public embrace of cryptocurrency. He further questioned the wisdom of investing in silver coins, stating, "Would a Maxi tell any human on the planet to buy a silver minted coin as an investment over Bitcoin?"
While silver has historically served as a store of value, Cuban pointed out that influential investors like Warren Buffett consider precious metals like silver to be riskier than productive assets that generate income.
The Trump Coins
The Trump coins, minted in the U.S., feature an image of the former president and contain one Troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver, priced at $100—more than three times the market price of silver. They come in a custom felt bag with a certificate of authenticity. Despite the official website claiming these coins are for enjoyment rather than investment, Cuban accused Trump of exploiting his supporters amid ongoing legal challenges.
Cuban questioned Trump's credibility as an investment advisor, asking, "Would you tell ANYONE you know to get business or investment advice from a person selling these coins?" He has been vocal in his criticism of Trump in recent weeks and has shown support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential race.
JBCZ Group and the Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment regarding Cuban's statements.
