Massive Crypto Market Dip: Bitcoin Struggles Below $100,000 as $180 Billion Vanishes!

Bitcoin Retreats from $100,000 Milestone
The price of Bitcoin has significantly dropped, retreating from the psychologically important $100,000 milestone. Investors are now booking profits from the token's recent gains following the U.S. elections.
As of 5:55 a.m. ET, Bitcoin was trading down 6.2% at $92,446.38, according to CoinGecko data. Other cryptocurrencies are also experiencing losses:
- Ether fell 4.2% to $3,346.86.
- Solana's sol token dropped 8.9% to $231.88.
Crypto Market Capitalization Takes a Hit
The entire crypto market capitalization has decreased by $182 billion, landing at $3.35 trillion. Despite this Tuesday drop, Bitcoin has seen an impressive rise of more than 30% since the U.S. presidential vote on November 5, which resulted in the election of Donald Trump.
Optimism Amidst Uncertainty
Although Trump has not yet been inaugurated, there is a renewed optimism surrounding his pro-crypto policy platform, which has fueled interest in digital currencies. Additionally, the upcoming resignation of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler on January 20—the day of Trump's inauguration—has added to this positive sentiment. Trump has promised to replace Gensler, who has been known for taking legal actions against major crypto firms.
This combination of events has created a complex landscape for Bitcoin and its fellow cryptocurrencies as they navigate this volatile market.
