Massive Cyber Heist: Over $44 Million Stolen from Singapore's BingX Crypto Platform!

Major Security Breach at BingX

Singaporean crypto platform BingX announced on Friday that over $44 million has been stolen in a cyberattack. The incident was first detected by blockchain security firms, which noted significant withdrawals from the platform.

The Incident

The company initially attributed the disruption to "wallet maintenance" but later revealed that they had detected abnormal network access, suggesting a possible hacker attack on their hot wallet. In response, BingX implemented emergency measures, including the urgent transfer of assets and a temporary suspension of withdrawals.

Financial Impact

A detailed audit conducted with SlowMist has tracked losses amounting to approximately $44.7 million, while some estimates suggest that losses could be as high as $48 million. BingX's Chief Product Officer, Vivien Lin, stated they are still calculating the total loss but confirmed that the platform will fully compensate for the losses with their own capital.

Recovery Efforts

BingX has managed to freeze $10 million as part of their recovery efforts. They are collaborating with Chainalysis to trace the stolen funds, and Lin assured users that trading services would continue as usual, although withdrawals and deposits are temporarily delayed.

Ongoing Challenges in Crypto Security

This incident comes amid a wave of security breaches affecting various Asia-based crypto platforms, including Indonesian and Singaporean exchanges that also reported significant thefts in recent weeks. Law enforcement agencies are now intensifying efforts to protect cryptocurrency users, following the arrest of individuals involved in a separate $230 million heist in Washington, D.C.
