MicroStrategy Adds 11,931 Bitcoin to its Portfolio for $786 Million

MicroStrategy, a Nasdaq-listed software firm and the biggest corporate holder of Bitcoin (BTC), announced the purchase of an additional 11,931 BTC for $786 million. This brings their total holdings to 226,331 BTC, now worth nearly $15 billion. The company has been aggressively accumulating Bitcoin since 2020, aiming to promote its adoption as a reserve asset for corporations. This purchase comes after the company successfully raised $800 million through a convertible note offering to institutional investors, which was initially targeted for $500 million, then increased to $700 million. Earlier this year, MicroStrategy acquired 9,245 BTC for $623 million using a similar debt issuance strategy. This latest purchase further solidifies MicroStrategy's commitment to Bitcoin and its mission to encourage broader corporate adoption of the cryptocurrency. Other companies, such as Semler Scientific, have followed suit, embracing Bitcoin as a treasury asset and actively seeking capital to expand their holdings. These developments have resulted in a significant surge in MicroStrategy's share price, rising tenfold since the company began its Bitcoin acquisition journey four years ago. Semler Scientific's share price has also experienced a notable increase of over 60% following its Bitcoin purchases.
