Mt. Gox Repayments: Bitcoin Price Impact Less Severe Than Expected, Bitcoin Cash May Suffer

Analysts believe the upcoming $8.5 billion Bitcoin (BTC) repayment to Mt. Gox creditors, starting in July, might not drastically impact Bitcoin's price. IG Markets analyst Tony Sycamore suggests that much of the anticipated sell pressure is already factored into the market's current state, given the long-awaited repayments and prevailing bearish sentiment. Sycamore further points out that a significant portion of the speculative capital has already left crypto markets, seeking opportunities in traditional equities. Galaxy Digital's head of research Alex Thorn estimates that only 65,000 BTC out of the total 141,000 will hit the market, as many creditors opted for early payouts, resulting in a smaller initial impact. Thorn also highlights the likelihood of Mt. Gox creditors holding onto their Bitcoin due to long-term belief and the potential capital gains tax implications. However, the situation might be different for Bitcoin Cash (BCH), as many investors received BCH as part of the Bitcoin fork in 2017 and might be more inclined to sell it.
