Police Officer Prevents $40,000 Bitcoin ATM Scam

A police officer in White Settlement, Texas, intervened in a scam involving a Chase Bank impersonator who tricked an elderly woman into withdrawing $40,000 and depositing it into a Bitcoin ATM. The impersonator threatened the victim with arrest if she didn't send the funds, a tactic commonly used in pig butchering scams. The victim saw “Chase Bank” on the caller ID and believed she was speaking to an employee. The scammer arranged transportation for the woman to a local Chase Bank to withdraw the money and then led her to a convenience store with a Bitcoin ATM. The police officer arrived just in time to prevent the woman from depositing more funds. The victim had already deposited $23,900 into the ATM. Authorities are working to recover the stolen funds and return them to the victim. The officer who intervened stated that he thought of his own mother when seeing the elderly woman and wants to see the scammer held accountable. The police department thanked the concerned citizen who reported the incident.
