Partnership Announcement
Cryptomine and AI data center developer Soluna has announced a new partnership with Bitcoin mining hardware firm Canaan Inc. This collaboration will deploy 20MW of Canaan's Avalon A15 XP Bitcoin miners at Soluna's Project Dorothy facility in Briscoe County, Texas.
Deployment and Capacity
The miners are expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2026, delivering an impressive 1EHps of Bitcoin mining capacity. This significant boost in hashing power underscores the growing scale of Bitcoin mining operations in the region.
Renewable Energy Focus
Soluna's Project Dorothy site is primarily powered by behind-the-meter wind power, emphasizing a commitment to sustainable energy sources. Additionally, the facility can draw power from the grid when necessary to ensure high operational uptime, blending reliability with environmental responsibility.
Leadership Insights
John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "This agreement reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-performance computing solutions powered by renewable energy. With Project Dorothy 2 now online and operational, we're doubling down on our mission to make renewable energy a global superpower."
Nangeng Zhang, chairman and CEO of Canaan, added, "Our partnership with Soluna is another significant step in advancing our North American self-mining strategy. Coupling our efficient and resilient Avalon A15 XP miners with Soluna's infrastructure should be a win for both companies."
Project Expansion
Soluna currently has three Dorothy sites, with Dorothy 1A and 1B already operational and Dorothy 2 under construction. These are part of a broader portfolio of 12 mining sites that, when fully operational, will combine for a total of 1GW of data center capacity, highlighting the company's ambitious growth in the sector.
