How the Scam Works

The fraudsters pose as police officers, claiming that individuals owe money due to a warrant, missed court date, or jury duty. They demand immediate payment using Bitcoin or gift cards, which are common methods for scammers to receive funds without detection.

Important Warning

MNPD has firmly stated, “No member of the MNPD will ever call to ask you for immediate monetary payment under any circumstance.” Residents are urged to be vigilant and not engage with these callers. If you receive such a call, it is crucial to report it to the authorities immediately.
