Trump’s pro-Bitcoin stance helps secure 12-point lead over Harris, FDU poll finds

Former President Donald Trump is making waves in the crypto community, and it's paying off in the race for the 2024 presidency! A recent Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) poll reveals that Trump's engagement with cryptocurrency enthusiasts has given him a significant 12-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris among likely voters who own crypto assets.

Poll Insights

The FDU poll, released on August 30, indicates:

“Trump leads by 12 points among likely voters who own crypto (50 to 38), while Harris leads by 12 among those who say that they don’t own crypto (53 to 41).”

According to Dan Cassino, a professor of Government and Politics at FDU, Trump's outreach to the crypto community aligns well with the underlying ideology of crypto, which often reflects a distrust of established power structures. This connection could be pivotal for his campaign.

Who Are the Crypto Owners?

The survey reveals that 15% of registered US voters have owned crypto, NFTs, or similar digital assets. This demographic primarily consists of men, younger voters, and racial minorities. Interestingly, while Republicans are slightly more likely to own crypto than Democrats, the stark 24-point difference in presidential support between crypto owners and non-owners cannot be ignored.

Cassino highlights that crypto owners span across the political spectrum:

“The fact that crypto owners aren’t conservatives or liberals or MAGA voters means that they’re up for grabs, and in an election that’s expected to be close, they’re too big a group to ignore.”

Trump’s Crypto Initiatives

In recent months, Trump has actively branded himself as a pro-crypto candidate, launching several initiatives to strengthen this image:

  • He became the first major presidential candidate to accept crypto donations in May.
  • In July, he headlined the largest Bitcoin event of the year in Nashville, promising to make BTC a federal reserve asset.
  • Recently, he unveiled his fourth NFT project, further solidifying his commitment to the crypto community.

As the election approaches, Trump's pro-Bitcoin stance could be a game-changer, especially among the growing demographic of crypto enthusiasts.
