Bitcoin (BTC), the world's largest cryptocurrency, is predicted to reach new highs in 2025, potentially testing or surpassing $185,000 in the fourth quarter, according to a recent report from Galaxy Research. The surge in Bitcoin's price is expected to be fueled by institutional, corporate, and nation-state adoption.

Ether Expected to Rise as Well

Alongside Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, is forecasted to exceed $5,500 within the next year.

Factors Driving Adoption

Alex Thorn, Galaxy's head of research, emphasized that the combination of various adoption sources will propel Bitcoin to unprecedented levels. Galaxy anticipates that at least five Nasdaq-100 companies and five nation-states will announce their Bitcoin holdings in the coming year, leading to increased competition among countries for Bitcoin adoption.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs and DeFi Growth

Galaxy predicts that the total assets under management (AUM) of U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will surpass $250 billion in 2025. Additionally, a leading wealth management platform is expected to allocate 2% or more of its funds to Bitcoin.

The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector is also projected to thrive, with the total amount of Bitcoin locked in DeFi likely to double from the current $11 billion next year.

Mining Trends and Market Cap Predictions

The trend of Bitcoin miners transitioning to high-performance computing (HPC) is anticipated to continue, with over half of the top 20 mining firms expected to announce partnerships with AI firms or hyperscalers in 2025. Moreover, Bitcoin is predicted to reach 20% of gold's market cap next year, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
