Will Bitcoin's Market Dominance Ever Reclaim Its Glory? Insights from Analyst Benjamin Cowen
Benjamin Cowen, founder of Into The Cryptoverse, expresses skepticism about Bitcoin (BTC) ever regaining its market dominance peaks last seen in December 2020. He asserts, "I don’t think it is going back up to 70%; my target for Bitcoin dominance has been 60%."
Currently, Bitcoin dominance stands at 57.36%, reflecting a 4.25% increase since mid-July and an 11.20% rise since the start of the year. Cowen notes that during significant altcoin seasons, such as the one in 2021, Bitcoin's dominance tends to wane but eventually recovers. However, he anticipates that this cycle will not witness Bitcoin reaching its historical highs.
Cowen predicts that Bitcoin will trend towards 60% dominance between September and December, indicating a healthy space for Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies.
Traders closely monitor Bitcoin dominance, often using it as a signal to sell Bitcoin in favor of alternative assets like altcoins. For context, Bitcoin dominance peaked at 70.23% in December 2020, just before its price skyrocketed by approximately 220% to $61,283 in March 2021.
Cowen elaborates on the complexities surrounding Bitcoin dominance today compared to 2019, when it slightly exceeded 71%. He recommends assessing Bitcoin dominance alongside stablecoin Tether (USDT) dominance to gauge "flight to safety dominance." Currently, the combined dominance of USDT and Bitcoin is at 63.07%, similar to levels observed in June 2019, prior to Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.
