Wisconsin's Bold Move: Boosting Bitcoin Holdings with BlackRock ETF

In a recent SEC filing, the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) disclosed an increase in its Bitcoin holdings. As of June 30, SWIB now owns 2,898,051 shares of BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), valued at nearly $99 million based on the average Bitcoin price during Q2. This marks a significant rise from the 2.5 million shares held at the end of March, while the board has completely divested from Grayscale's GBTC, which previously accounted for 1 million shares.

US States Embrace Bitcoin
The trend of US states investing in Bitcoin continues. Recently, the State of Michigan Retirement System reported holding 110,000 shares in ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), valued at approximately $6.6 million. Although this represents only 0.004% of their $143.9 billion in assets, it highlights a growing interest in Bitcoin investments among state funds.
Recent Inflows into Bitcoin ETFs
Between August 12 and 13, Bitcoin ETFs in the US saw inflows totaling nearly $67 million. Notably, BlackRock's IBIT experienced a surge in inflows from $13.4 million to $34.6 million, while outflows from Grayscale’s GBTC increased significantly, indicating a shift in investor sentiment towards Bitcoin ETFs. Additionally, Bitwise's BITB and ARK 21Shares' ARKB reported mixed results with outflows and a notable net inflow for ARKB.
As Bitcoin continues to gain traction among institutional investors, the SWIB's strategic move reinforces the growing acceptance and integration of cryptocurrency into mainstream financial portfolios.
