Norwich Police Report Major Cryptocurrency Theft
A theft involving $159,713 worth of cryptocurrency has been reported to the Norwich Police Department in Connecticut.
The incident, which occurred on March 15, involved the illegal removal of Bitcoin and Ethereum from a victim's cold storage wallet, referred to as a "wallet drainer."
Investigation and Recovery
Following the theft, the police promptly notified state authorities. Investigators were able to trace the stolen cryptocurrencies to two compliant exchanges. They successfully issued freeze requests and obtained search warrants from the New London Superior Court, resulting in the recovery of approximately $42,130 worth of cryptocurrency.
